I am very excited to announce that Richard White has asked me to assit him with his High Country Workshop in May 2011.
The High Country is one of those magnificent places and especially so around the Falls Creek area. During this time of year the areas are so accessible and offer wonderful views of Spion Kopje, Mt McKay and Mt Bogong. The monolithic rock formations and areas around Rocky Valley Dam make for some interesting photographs at various times. The workshop will also explore some of the mountain huts in the area as well as the impressive dignified snow gums of Pretty Valley. The views are refreshing as is the mountain air.
During our indoor sessions we will discuss and demonstrate some of the more technical ways of improving our photography both traditionally and by use of the computer. As well as a thorough review of participants work, Richard and Dean will show and discuss their own finely crafted prints which will round off a very useful exercise. There is a good mix of both indoor and outdoor sessions which will go towards improving your composition and overall photography.
Our accommodation will be in one of the comfortable ski lodges at Falls Creek. This workshop begins Friday evening at 6.00pm for dinner or 7.30pm for instruction and concludes the following Monday around midday.
Full details and to book this workshop go to Richards website.

I ran a 2 day workshop for The Coal Country Camera Club (Tarallgon), we were based in Bright , Victoria and ventured into Mt Buffalo National Park. There were 18 very keen photographers of all levels, my main goal for this workshop was to teach them to SEE and visualize an image, composition was at the top of the list and we worked hard on learning what works and what dosn't when making an image. All in all it was a fantastic weekend in an idyllic location ......
Here are some testimonials from the weekend.....
Our camera club has just spent the most wonderful weekend of learning and socialising at Dean's workshop at Mt Buffalo and Bright. He has a relaxed and friendly style that suited all levels. Everyone came away excited, motivated and keen to go and practice the compositional skills and other techniques that Dean guided us through with his clear, easy to understand approach. Dean went over and above the call of duty to share with us his knowledge and talent...and the best recommendation of all....we have booked him for another weekend workshop next month!!!

Hello Dean,
Just a note to say how much I enjoyed and how much I learnt from our time at Bright. Your ability to indentify and target advice on issues that affected the group and me personally in our one on one discussions was appreciated. I hear there are plans are afoot to have another session down your way and if I am quick enough to register I will be there. I suspect the available places will be keenly sought.

Shelly, Amanda and Neville on The Summit
This workshop was run by Mt Buller Summer School, the main tutor was Richard White. Bob Bateup and myself assisted Richard, we had 10 students who where keen as mustard. We had a mix of indoor sessions and of course we got out into the field to shoot The West Ridge, Little Buller and the Summit, we also threw in the Merrijig Rodeo .... quite different to shooting landscapes.
I will keep you posted as this workshop will run again next year.
